In November 2008, A leading Russian political analyst named Professor Igor Panarin said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts. He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts – the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong. Attending Religious Services Helps You Live Longer

Many people go to church or synagogue because it makes them feel good, but did you know doing so on a regular basis can actually extend your life? A recent study published by researchers at Yeshiva University and its medical school, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, strongly suggests that weekly attendance at religious services reduces the risk of death by approximately 20 percent. The researchers evaluated the religious practices of 92,395 post-menopausal women participating in a national, long-term study aimed at addressing women’s health issues that is funded by the National Institutes of Health. They examined the prospective association of religious affiliation, religious service attendance, and strength and comfort derived […]

NFL Kicker on God UNPLUGGED

This week’s guest on GOD UNPLUGGED is NFL kicker, Jason Hanson. The 17-year veteran, and one of the NFL’s most productive kickers, is the Detroit Lions’ all-time scoring leader with 1,714 points as well as the all-time leader in field goals and extra points. Hanson became only the eighth player in NFL history to surpass the 1,700-point mark in 2008, and he ranks third in all-time scoring amongst active players. With 39 field goals of 50 yards or more, Hanson is in second place all-time among kickers in NFL history and is just one field goal shy of the all-time record. Amazingly, the Spokane, Wash., native has only missed seven […]

Thanksgiving Trivia

In the fall of 1621, the religious separatist Pilgrims held a three-day feast to celebrate a bountiful harvest, an event many regard as the nation’s first Thanksgiving. It eventually became a national holiday in 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a national day of thanksgiving. Later, President Franklin Roosevelt clarified that Thanksgiving should always be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of the month to encourage earlier holiday shopping, never on the occasional fifth Thursday. There were an estimated 271 million turkeys raised in the United States in 2008 Minnesota produces the most turkeys (49 million) followed by North Carolina (39 million) and Arkansas (31 […]

The Adoption Option

23-year-old recording artist, Nate Huss, is putting his money where his mouth is…literally.  Unlike most recording artists who support a cause from the sidelines, Nate is giving his pet project, adoption, all of his attention.  For the  month of November, Nate  has literally taken his website down and put a holding page about adoption in it’s place.  That’s a costly move for an up-and-comer who is building a name for himself.  It just goes to show you what a quality guy he is. Nate was only three weeks old when he was placed in the loving arms of his new adopted family – the Phoenix home of Dave and Sylvia […]

What does it mean to tithe?

As a devoted follower of Christ, I am in many ways saddened by the state of the Christian Church as an institution, and I will be addressing some of those issues in upcoming blogs.  There are many who share my thoughts.  On Monday morning I listed my status on Facebook as “Frustrated with Organized Religion.”  For the next day my email inbox sounded like popcorn – I was peppered with responses from people who wholeheartedly agree with that statement.  These people aren’t atheists or people of other religions, they are fellow Christians.  Here are some of the comments: “…constructs of men (mankind) will never measure up!” “Preach it, sister.” “Good […]

Do Prenuptial Agreements Doom a Marriage?

I recently interviewed a Christian attorney on my show, GOD UNPLUGGED,   who had some amazing things to say about how Christians should view the law.  One of the things we discussed is the prevalence of prenuptial agreements with engaged couples.  Do you think they are a good idea, or do they pave the way for a couple to land in divorce court? I guess I’m old fashioned. When I stood in front of 300 people and before God during our wedding, I was serious about my vows.  Til death do we part isn’t just a trite phrase in a book.  Marriage isn’t a silly, “Go the Viva Las Vegas Wedding […]
