A Courtroom Thriller That Kept Me Guessing—A Review of The #1 Lawyer

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars

I love a good courtroom drama, and this one certainly kept me turning the pages! That said, I couldn’t help thinking that James Patterson and Nancy Allen were borrowing a page or two from John Grisham’s playbook. The similarities were hard to miss.

Stafford Lee Penney is Biloxi, Mississippi’s most celebrated criminal defense attorney, with a perfect courtroom record and an ego to match. But when his wife is murdered, his picture-perfect life comes crashing down. Suddenly, the man who has made a career out of defending the accused finds himself on the wrong side of the law.

The authors have created a colorful cast of characters, beginning with Penney himself, who undergoes quite the transformation as his life unravels. The story moves at a brisk pace, with plenty of twists, turns, and courtroom fireworks. And just when I thought I had everything figured out, the authors threw me a curveball. I certainly didn’t see that ending coming!

Is it groundbreaking? No. Is it entertaining? You bet! Sometimes a good, old-fashioned legal thriller is just what the doctor ordered.
