Family Secrets Surface in a Tense, Atmospheric Mystery: A Review of Relative Silence

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Carrie Stuart Parks delivers an absorbing blend of family drama, mystery, and romantic suspense in Relative Silence. Piper Boone has spent fifteen years living beneath the weight of her young daughter’s tragic death. When a deadly café shooting suggests that Piper may have been the intended target, forensic artist Tucker Landry joins her search for answers—and old secrets begin rising around her powerful, deeply troubled family.

Parks creates an evocative setting on Curlew Island, where gathering storms and an approaching hurricane intensify the novel’s uneasy atmosphere. Piper is sympathetic and believably imperfect, while Tucker brings warmth and steadiness to the story. Their growing relationship adds emotional depth without overwhelming the mystery.

The plot contains plenty of twists, suspicious relatives, and buried betrayals. At times, the large cast and rapidly unfolding revelations make the story feel a little crowded, while some twists are more convincing than others. Even so, the brisk pace kept me turning pages, and the themes of grief, guilt, forgiveness, and redemption gave the suspenseful story real heart. Relative Silence is an entertaining choice for readers who enjoy clean thrillers, complicated families, and a touch of romance.
